Gilmore girls or Gilmore Girls – A Year In Life is one such tv show that will instantly make you fall in love with each and every character. Whether it’s Lorelai’s coffee addiction and speaking as fast as a train, Rory’s innocence and cuteness, Luke’s care, and anger, Emily’s expressions, Kirk’s amazing personality, Paris’s extreme ambitiousness, or Lane’s friendship with Rory, you will connect and relate each of those characters to someone from your own life making this show that much more interesting to watch!

Gilmore Girls Tv show although was debuted as a comedy-drama in late 2000, received so much more love when Netflix picked up the show. It was initially telecasted on WB directed by Amy Sherman Palladino, starring Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore and Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore, mother, and daughter respectively in the lead roles. This show received an instant appreciation for its fun-filled, simple yet unique and quirky characters, storyline, and cast. The show ran for 7 seasons out of which one season ( the last season) was picked up by the CW, coming to an end in May 2007. Nine years later, in 2016 Netflix produced the reboot of this cute show’s a year in life. And now is rumored to be having another glorious season of “Gilmore Girls – A Year In Life“!

A Little about the show Gilmore Girls:

This show released 20 years ago, and still one of the go-to series and one of the very few series that you can relate to, have fun watching and watch with anyone, a friend, family, or your partner. Set in the fictitious town of Stars Hollow, a story of a young mother and her daughter in the journey of their life in town, love lives, and family drama! Lorelai Gilmore runs away from her home when she gets pregnant with Rory and raises her in Stars Hollow, away from her parents while working at an inn.

The series showcases a variety of issues regarding family, romance, career, friendship, misunderstandings, and ambition, along with generational gaps and differences between social classes and the way it affects life. As the story goes we get to see Lorelai’s difficult relationship with her elite parents, Emily and Richard Gilmore, and Rory’s relationship with her grandparents, her private high school Chilton and later on her Yale university journey. Amy Sherman-Palladino, who was the director and showrunner for the 6 seasons of this show, was replaced by David. S. Rosenthal, for the last season, after it was taken by the CW.

Television critics loved “Gilmore Girls” for its witty and fast-paced dialogues, cross-generational appeal, and accurate mix of humor, drama, and romance. Although Gilmore girls did not gain enormous ratings, it was a WB hit series and did well for all. Season 5 was said to be the best season of Gilmore Girls both by the critics and fans. In 2016, the main cast and Sherman-Palladino returned for a four-part mini-series reboot titled, “Gilmor Girl – A Year In Life” which is streaming on Netflix. Gilmore Girls has been featured in both in TV(the book) and Time magazine under the category of “one of the 100 greatest television shows of all time.

Nine years after the original series ended, Netflix treated Gilmore Girls fandom by announcing a Gilmore Girls reboot of a mini-series consisting of 4 episodes. A Year In Life revolves around mostly Rory who is struggling with her career and while having a secret affair with Logan, her ex-boyfriend, who is now engaged. In this mini-series Lorelai and Luke fans were the happiest since they live together and their relationship shown so beautifully yet are having little lovers quarrel every now and then due to the communication issues they’ve always had.

Richard, Lorelai’s father passes away due to a heart attack, which causes misunderstandings between Lorelai and Emily, and they end up in therapy. As the show proceeds Lorelai, at a point of time starts to question her life, and sets on a hike to Pacific Crest Trail, to find herself but instead finds out how deeply she loves her family and Luke. She comes back home and proposes to Luke (again). Meanwhile, Rory decides to write a book about her life called “Gilmore Girls”. We get to see Luke and Lorelai’s most awaited wedding, and the show ends with Rory telling Lorelai that she is pregnant. What an ending!!

So, is there going to be a season 2 of AYITL?

A Year in the Life ended on a cliffhanger which makes the fans want another season and an expectation of renewal. Amy Sherman Palladino, the director, and writer of the show is currently working exclusively on Amazon’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she revealed during the interview with The Vanity fair saying:

“It’s still a possibility. Everyone has been very busy. Alexis Bledel clearly is very busy! It would have to be the right story and the right moment. A lot went into getting it together the first time.”

Rumors have it that when Season 1 of “Gilmore Girls – A Year In Life” released in November of 2016, Netflix has also renewed this mini-series for yet another season. It is said that due to COVID-19 the release dates have been postponed from November 2020 to Spring 2021 as the post-production works are incomplete. While the trailer of this new mini-series is said to air very soon.
